The Event
The 7th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment were a local territorial unit, containing men from Congleton. They landed in August 1915, this talk is the story of their time in Gallipoli.
Tickets include a talk on Congleton and Gallipoli and private view of the new temporary First World War exhibition.
Join us during the evening of the 23rd July at the Bridestones Suite in Congleton Town Hall for an illuminating talk presented by Ian Doughty the Chair of Congleton Museum and researcher, Linda Hulse. The talk will be accompanied by a presentation featuring historical images of soldiers from Congleton and letters.
The talk will begin promptly at 7pm in the Bridestones Suite and last for around 1 hour. The talk includes a museum booklet “Congleton in the First World War”. Following the talk in the town hall, guests are welcomed to the museum for a private view of the museums new First World War Exhibition. Guests will be greeted at the museum with a complimentary class of wine. Be the first to see the new exhibition!
Some objects will on display in the main exhibition, and available for you to look at them closely with the opportunity for some object handling. The new temporary First World War Exhibition featuring Gallipoli will be on display upstairs in the museum. The exhibition will open to the public the following day.
7pm – 8pm – Congleton and Gallipoli 1915 Talk in the Bridestones Suite, Congleton Town Hall.
8pm – 9pm – Private view of the new First World War Exhibition in the museum, complimentary refreshments provided.
Your ticket includes access to both the talk and exhibition, museum booklet and a drink refreshment. Friends of Congleton Museum receive a 20% discount.
Tickets are non-refundable, if you are no longer able to attend please contact info@congletonmuseum.co.uk. Pre-booked tickets only, tickets will not be available on the door. If you are not able to pre-book online, please contact the museum directly.
Further information
There is a short 1-minute walk from Congleton Town Hall to Congleton Museum. Guests will be guided by volunteers. Due to limited space in the museum, you may be asked to see either the exhibition or object handling first. There will be object handling in the main exhibition, and a new temporary exhibition on the First World War and Gallipoli upstairs in the museum. A drink refreshment will be available from the museum reception, alcoholic and non-alcoholic options will be available.
