The True Story of Little Bess and Lives of Congleton Women in the 17th Century

Description

An account of the life and work of Little Bess as she nursed and tended to the sick during the plague of 1641, drawn from extracts from contemporary Corporation Account and Order Books. Whilst these books are primarily concerned with the activities of men they, with associated wills and inventories, can shed an interesting light upon the role of women in the town during the 17th and 18th centuries.
