In every town there are hidden alleys or pathways between shops or behind factories. In this booklet the author explores those paths and ‘yards’, some now long gone, which existed off the town’s major streets, such as Garside’s Yard and Bradshaw Place off Lawton Street, Blacksmiths Yard off Wagg Street, or Well Gutter Alley, and St Helen’s Square off Mill Street.
